Gingko House is a social enterprise restaurant to provide suitable job opportunities for the elderly with financial or psychological needs and subsidize free meals to elderly living alone, street sleepers and unemployed people affected by the pandemic. On 8 October 2020, the volunteer team went to its Yau Ma Tei branch for a donation ceremony. We aimed to help the grassroots and underprivileged groups in the society, to show our care and to fight the pandemic together.[\/vc_custom_heading][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/3″][vc_single_image media=”1748″ media_width_percent=”100″ shape=”img-round” shadow=”yes” shadow_weight=”sm” shadow_darker=”yes”][vc_custom_heading text_size=”fontsize-192317″ text_height=”fontheight-206218″ uncode_shortcode_id=”185094″]The 15th day of the eighth lunar month is the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival. As the festive season is approaching, the volunteer team went to the office of S.K.H. St. Christopher\u2019s Home in North Point on 21 September 2020 to present the moon cakes to the children and young people stayed in their small group homes. We wish them a warm Mid-Autumn Festival in advance.<\/p>\n

Founded in 1935, S.K.H. St. Christopher\u2019s Home began as an orphanage taking care of homeless children. In 1993, following the changes in social welfare policies, St. Christopher\u2019s Home set up small group homes for children and young people from broken families in Hong Kong. Today, it provides various child-focused social services, including residential child care service, pre-primary children service, and non-government funding service.[\/vc_custom_heading][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/3″][vc_single_image media=”896″ media_width_percent=”100″ shape=”img-round” shadow=”yes” shadow_weight=”sm” shadow_darker=”yes”][vc_custom_heading text_size=”fontsize-192317″ text_height=”fontheight-206218″ uncode_shortcode_id=”142899″]We made a charitable donation of HK$ 40,000 (raised from the top management and colleagues) to Manna Cafe, a social enterprise. Mr. Fong, the owner of Manna Cafe in Kwun Tong advised that part of the donation received will be used to buy new appliances for the restaurant, while other part could be used to subsidize free meals and free home-delivered meal boxes for the elderly and street sleepers.<\/p>\n

Manna Cafe has three missions – to use all profits on caring services within the district; to provide employment opportunities and vocational training to people who have no experience in the catering industry; and to perform caring works within the district.[\/vc_custom_heading][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner limit_content=””][vc_column_inner width=”1\/1″][vc_empty_space empty_h=”1″][vc_separator sep_color=”,Default”][vc_empty_space empty_h=”1″][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner row_inner_height_percent=”0″ overlay_alpha=”50″ equal_height=”yes” gutter_size=”3″ shift_y=”0″ z_index=”0″ limit_content=””][vc_column_inner width=”1\/3″][vc_single_image media=”908″ media_width_percent=”100″ shape=”img-round” shadow=”yes” shadow_weight=”sm” shadow_darker=”yes”][vc_custom_heading text_size=”fontsize-192317″ text_height=”fontheight-206218″ uncode_shortcode_id=”840429″]Our staff volunteers went to the Hong Kong office of Hong Chi Association in Wanchai to participate the second program of donating anti-epidemic kits.<\/p>\n

Hong Chi Association (formerly The Hong Kong Association for the Mentally Handicapped) was started in 1965. It is a non-profit making organization in Hong Kong dedicated to serving over 7,000 people of all ages and all grades of intellectual disabilities.[\/vc_custom_heading][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/3″][vc_single_image media=”904″ media_width_percent=”100″ shape=”img-round” shadow=”yes” shadow_weight=”sm” shadow_darker=”yes”][vc_custom_heading text_font=”font-115431″ text_size=”fontsize-192317″ text_height=”fontheight-206218″]Our staff volunteers went to the Oasis Nursing Home located in Tsz Wan Shan to present 60 pre-packaged anti-epidemic kits to the elders. The anti-epidemic kits consisted of JcoNAT naturally-existing disinfectant, medical masks, sanitized wipes and biscuits.<\/p>\n

The Oasis Nursing Home was put into service in 2008. It covers an area of about 60,000 square feet and provides 217 places for the elders.[\/vc_custom_heading][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/3″][vc_single_image media=”894″ media_width_percent=”100″ shape=”img-round” shadow=”yes” shadow_weight=”sm” shadow_darker=”yes”][vc_custom_heading text_font=”font-115431″ text_size=”fontsize-192317″ text_height=”fontheight-206218″]21 colleagues formed a volunteer team to visit 30 elders of BMCPC Life Education and Elderly Support Centre of Po Leung Kuk in Kwun Tong to give them blessings and care. We played game and formed small groups to make photo frames with the elders. We and all the elders indulged in clapping our hands and singing. The whole centre was full of singing and laughter. In the laughter, we distributed a Mid-Autumn Festival gift package to each elder, hoping to bring them the festive joy.[\/vc_custom_heading][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
